![]() You can learn more at the LEGO BOOST website, and buy the set at the LEGO BOOST section of the Online LEGO Shop. LEGO BOOST is basically the consumer version of the LEGO Education system, and it looks like this is what LEGO plans to support in the future. So, while the different electronics and robotics systems offered by LEGO are not readily compatible at this point, LEGO does have the intention to bring them to the same standard, and this standard is the one currently used in the LEGO BOOST and the LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 kits. However, the exact timing of this transition has not been determined as of yet. To the question of what does this mean for the existing plug system on LEGO Power Functions and LEGO MINDSTORMS products, and if they will also be changed, LEGO responds that “they will eventually be converted to the new plug system after a transition period”. In regards to this connector, it is interesting to note that on the Frequently Asked Questions section of the LEGO Education website it says that “this is the new LEGO Power Functions plug that has been optimized to meet potential future needs”. LEGO BOOST is not compatible with LEGO MINDSTORMS or LEGO Power Functions, however it has the same six-pin connector as the LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 system. It is also similar to the LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 system as it has a central hub (called the Move Hub), which contains two motors with tachometers, Bluetooth connection with your tablet, input and output ports, a six-axis tilt sensor, a multicolored light, and a battery compartment. This makes it much more versatile and much friendlier than LEGO MINDSTORMS. You will see right away that LEGO BOOST is similar to LEGO Power Functions and LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 because of its compatibility with standard LEGO elements. The LEGO Power Functions, LEGO MINDSTORMS and LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 systems are not compatible with each other (or at least not without some wire-cutting and other hacks), and now we have LEGO BOOST to add to this confusing mix! You can learn more about LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 at the LEGO Education website, and you can also check out the different components at the LEGO Education Shop. It is interesting that LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 is based on the LEGO Power Functions system, and is compatible with both standard LEGO and LEGO Technic pieces, but the electric connectors are different. The accompanying desktop and tablet supported software provides an easy-to-use programming environment and includes the WeDo 2.0 Curriculum Pack, which covers life, physical, earth, and space sciences, as well as engineering. The core set comes in a storage bin along with sorting trays, a SmartHub, a motor, various sensors, and standard LEGO building pieces. The LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 system is used in schools with a full curriculum to teach science skills, and is not as well-known or talked about in the LEGO fan community. The official LEGO MINDSTORMS website is an excellent resource for learning how to use the system, and you can find all the components under the LEGO MINDSTORMS section of the Online LEGO Shop. However, due to the large components and LEGO Technic parts the robots are quite dated and ugly looking (sorry, EV3!). LEGO MINDSTORMS is recommended for teens and adults for building a pretty much unlimited variety of sophisticated robots. ![]() LEGO MINDSTORMS is based on the LEGO Technic system, and includes various motors, sensors, and connectors that can be added to the EV3 Brick. At the heart of the product is the Intelligent EV3 Brick with a powerful ARM9 processor, a USB port for WiFi and Internet connectivity, a Micro SD card reader, back-lit buttons and four motor ports. The LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 system is LEGO’s most advanced robotics kit used by both schools and individuals. You can find all the components under the LEGO Power Functions section of the Online LEGO Shop. On the negative side, the pieces and connectors are fairly large, so it’s difficult to fit them into smaller creations. ![]() Using LEGO Power Functions is very easy and intuitive, so even a child can motorize their set. There is no robotics component to LEGO Power Functions, it’s just a simple system to motorize LEGO sets like trains and LEGO Technic vehicles. They include different size motors, a standard battery or rechargeable battery box, lights, and various control modules to operate the system. LEGO Power Functions is the simplest way to power LEGO sets. So let’s take a look at how these different systems compare, and how compatible they are. We have discussed the new #17101 LEGO BOOST Creative Toolboxalready (see: LEGO BOOST Creative Toolbox Review), however there is one question that we haven’t addressed in detail LEGO BOOST’s compatibility with the #31313 LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 robotics system, the LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 system, and the standard LEGO Power Functions system.

On April 17, 2019, the game was beta released in New Zealand. On March 11, 2019, pre-registration on Google Play opened for the app as well as new in-game footage was released by Niantic. Release Ī first gameplay video for the game was released in March 2019, showing footage defending from a dementor, and being attacked by a werewolf. On November 2, 2021, Portkey Games announced game would be shutting down, which happened at 12:01 a.m. On November 14, 2018, it was confirmed that the game would be released in 2019. With Niantic's purchase of Escher Reality, the game was expected to implement new technology to allow for persistent worlds within AR. The was ultimately published under the Portkey Games license. The game was officially announced on November 8, 2017, as an augmented reality mobile game developed by Niantic and WB Games San Francisco, with the former also acting as the publisher. Development ĭevelopment of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite commenced in 2017. In April 2020, Wizards Unite introduced the Knight Bus which allows players to participate in magical challenges in virtual fortresses regardless of their physical location, an answer to the worldwide lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the player moves within their real-world surroundings, their avatar moves within the game's map. The player can also stop at inns (to replenish spell energy), greenhouses (to gain potion ingredients and grow new ingredients), and fortresses (to fight dark wizards and beasts). The player then travels around the real world to find "confounded" items and creatures, and "unconfound" them. Players must physically travel to explore the game's map and visit fortresses (the two large towers), inns (building in foreground) and greenhouses (two small blue glasshouses).Īfter creating a game account, the player makes an avatar, whose location depends on the device's geographical location. Players may choose their wizarding house, their wand, and their profession: either Professor, Auror or Magizoologist. The game allows players to fight against mythical beasts from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchise. Players are able to visit real-world locations while casting spells, discovering mysterious artefacts, and encountering iconic characters and legendary beasts from the Harry Potter universe. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite gameplay has been described as similar to that of Pokémon Go, with players able to view the gameplay world through a smartphone. It was shut down in January 2022, after Portkey Games previously announced to end the service in November 2021. The game received mixed reviews from critics and won the Peoples' Voice Award for "Technical Achievements" at the 2020 Webby Awards. It was launched for Android and iOS mobile devices on June 20, 2019. A beta version was released in New Zealand in April 2019, and in Australia in May 2019. The player character engages with the world by casting spells, discovering artefacts and facing known characters and beasts of the Wizarding World universe.ĭevelopment of Wizards Unite commenced in 2017. Wizards Unite begins as the player creates their avatar and starts their journey at the player's real world location. The game is based on the Harry Potter series and part of the Wizarding World media franchise, created by J. It's completely free-to-play, just like Niantic's other games.Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was an augmented reality (AR) mobile game developed by Niantic and WB Games San Francisco, and published by Niantic, under license from Portkey Games. If you want to give Wizards Unite a shot, simply open up the Google Play Store or the App Store (depending on which device you're using) and give it a download. Inns are likely going to be found in various real-world restaurants, fast food locations, and shops. Once that happens, you can either pay for "Spell Energy"-restoring food and drink or visit various "Inns," which function like Go's Pokéstops. Like Pokémon Go, you will eventually run out of resources. In Wizards Unite, your repeatable goal will be to explore and find "Foundables," which you'll need to send back to the wizard world. The core gameplay loop with Pokémon Go involved wandering the world and capturing Pokémon. Players will be given the opportunity to specialize in various magical "Professions," each with its own unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. ![]() ![]() You'll meet iconic Harry Potter characters, battle dark wizards and monsters, and even take on fellow players at multiplayer "Fortresses" dotted around the map (think Pokémon Go Gyms).

Public rec pants vs lululemon8/28/2023 ![]() $54 for a t-shirt and between $98 and $108 for some casual pants isn’t cheap. I do like the collar as well- it’s an elevated casual that’s done well in a few Zoom calls.īut, I wouldn’t put it on over an Oxford. ![]() It’s phenomenally comfortable for lounging around the house. However, Public Rec offers a “workday” pant which might find the happy medium. Chinos or some fitted denim would be a better option. And, certainly too casual for any kind of office environment. Perhaps it’s just my style, but I find them a little too casual for most social gatherings. But, I’ve rarely worn them out in public for a significant period of time other than to drop my daughter off at day care. I’ve worn the joggers and ADED pants at least twice a week over the last six months. If you wash on cold and dry on delicate, the color will hold and you shouldn’t run into any shrinking problems, either. I’ve washed and dried each item at least ten times. With one exception on the seat of the ADED pant where my dog scratched with her paws, these have taken a beating and survived. Polyester, even from brands charging a premium, has a nasty habit of pulling, pilling, and fading. The fabric has also held up remarkably well. I’ve also worn the t-shirt to the gym a few times, and haven’t experienced any significant odor retention. I’ve worn the ADED pant and t-shirt on a 10-hour road trip, because they were the best things for the job. They became my go-to on the weekends, when I was still fielding work calls. I’ve worn both the ADED pant and joggers while logging 12 hour days at a high-stress job. However, the 30×30 waist size is a great fit for my 32″ waist. I did have to take a straight fit in the ADED pants, because a slim really squeezed my thighs and calves. After six months of wear…Īfter wearing Public Rec for six months in a work-and-parent-from-home environment, I believe they’re fantastic.Įvery item fits my body type (5’7.5″, athletic build) wonderfully. You can stretch things out and they snap back with that satisfying ‘thwack.’īut, as I’ve written about before for this site, a ‘review’ isn’t especially useful if I just try stuff on and tell you whether or not it fits and I like it.Ĭlothes should be worn, washed, and lived in for a number of months to really get a sense of what they’re like. Each piece has a wonderful thickness, feeling much better than most of my gym pants. The colors I chose fit the neutral palette I favor, so it’s very easy to style the pieces around the house. Public Rec Go-to Long Sleeve Henley and All Day Every Day Pant While I’m not a textile engineer, the materials are noticeably superior to a department-store gym pant. “Quality” and “polyester” don’t usually find themselves in the same sentence but, well, they just did. Let’s take a closer look at these items… Public Rec First Impressions All Day Every Day Pant (Straight fit, 30×30).Public Rec was kind enough to send over a number of items for testing. The ultimate goal is to be as comfortable as possible without sacrificing fit or polish. Goldstein started the project solo with the ‘ADED.’ But, as the company has grown, they now offer a full range of tops, bottoms, and light outerwear for both men and (recently) women. It’s a blend of synthetic and performance fabric claiming to be as comfortable as a sweatpant, but with enough shape to wear out of the house without looking sloppy. ![]() Read on for my full review! About Public RecĮntrepreneur Zach Goldstein launched the brand on Kickstarter with the “ All Day Everyday” pant. So, what works? What doesn’t work? Ultimately, are these grown-up-track-pant-jogger-things worth it? ![]() Over the last six months, I’ve been testing a whole range of their products in a work-from-home environment. Public Rec makes elevated basics for the casual guy who still wants to look put together. I figure it’s the most comfortable you can be without getting sloppy. As I’ve been working from home for the last (seemingly endless) number of months, I’ve found myself replacing my denim or chinos with joggers and performance wear.

As a certificated private pilot, I don’t trust this app for any serious flight planning only for the anecdotal “quick look” at data. The app has always been buggy with multiple crashes, antiqued data at times, and features that wouldn’t work. It seems like the focus these days is on subscription gain versus a coherent package and solid product. The features section conflicts between the App Store and what’s listed in app, so you can’t tell with 100% certainty what you’ll get if you shell out the cash. Dark mode integration and bug fixes are considered “recurring costs” now? I think not. Had the Pro version without any subscriptions and now with this latest update, the Pro app was taken away with an expectation to re-purchase a subscription to enable features like “dark mode.” The developer says they need to cover recurring costs. If you have a favorite aviation app, tweet me! This post originally appeared on others have already mentioned, this used to be my go to app for METARS.
